At Questacon, Canberra’s hands-on science museum, the new gallery for children aged 0–6 blends immersive learning with a design that invites play - all while ensuring the acoustic comfort needed in a lively, high-energy environment.
In the Mangroves-themed zone, the team sought a tactile, canopy-like installation that children could experience as part of the environment - not just decoration.
To bring this to life, Zintra Ceiling Features were specified in a fully custom approach, using both Clouds and Shapes as the basis for the design. Zintra's existing Clouds Turbine was reimagined into bespoke mangrove-leaf forms in Olive and Lime. Suspended above the play area, these textured Zintra elements double as part of the installation, enriching the sensory experience while delivering the acoustic comfort essential for a lively, hands-on space.
The result is a sculptural overhead canopy where texture, form and colour work together to tell the mangrove story.
